Faceless Men: who is Jaqen H'ghar?

  • Jaqen H’ghar is probably the most confusing Game of Thrones character. Who is Jaqen? What’s his relationship with Arya? Is Jaqen Syrio Forel? Who’s the “alchemist” at Oldtown, and what does he want? What do the Faceless Men have to do with Valyria? Were the Faceless Men involved in the death of Balon Greyjoy? Could they be working with Euron Greyjoy to orchestrate a huge terrible blood sacrifice?

This video contains spoilers for Season 6 of Game of Thrones, and Books 1-5 of ASOIAF, and a TWOW sample chapter read by GRRM.

The price of faceless men depends on who you want to kill.

The whole part about the faceless men looking for information about dragons seems obviously stupid.

They began in Valyria. Since this is the case, they obviously know more about dragons than anyone. Whatever information the Valyrians had, the faceless men could definitely have acquired.

Especially if they were the ones to cause the doom, it seems obvious that they must have possessed vast knowledge of blood and fire magic.

Only in dumb and dumbers version could a severely injured and inexperienced Arya defeat the vastly superior (killing wise, knowledge wise, fighting in the dark wise etc) waif in the dark. By that point, its tv by ‘mericans for ‘mericans ffs.

I do not see the weirdness in the whole Jaqen H´ghar being the dancing teacher. Well there is the question about why Jaqen was in kings landing and how he managed to end up getting caught as a criminal in the first place. He is suppose to be a master assassin with the ability to change face and body as a man changes is clothes. Yet he manages to get caught that easily?
Another thing is why would they kill the dance teacher when he is obviously not a threat to the realm. He would have served far better in the night's watch with his fencing talents.
Jaqen H´ghar shouldn't have been in that cart, but the dance teacher should have.

Sounds like the author was inspired by the worshippers of death in the Elder Scrolls IP. IT turns out you become a worshipper and an assassin in ESO as well and you worship the two faces of death the god and goddess said to be separate beings but not really. One of the things they have as a power is the ability to stealth instantly and gain great unnatural speed after backstabbing anyone including npcs in cities (who are not guards in ESO). It made for one of the best stories. They are called the Black Hand.

Just another potentially great storyline ruined by dumb and dumber.
