    Some budget upgrading strategies here

  • Adobe uses Intel's quick sync to encode video faster there is nothing to do with GPU. I believe Linus use Adobe premiere pro for video editing

Perhaps they cost C$1bn, its beyond his budget

  • Don't use the same OS Installation for comparison. Adobe doesn't like changing Boards/CPUs. I got really bad results when I tried to just swap hardware without a fresh OS install. Even the iGPU wasn't used at all after swapping hardware. After a fresh install this works fine after all.

  • @kilrahvp you can't just uninstall Adobe and are good to go. As far as I know you really need to install Windows again to make it work.I don't know why but it is like it is.

  • kilrahvp  6 days ago

@zwz • zdenek Adobe totally does stupid stuff like detecting config on install and never updating it again.

The way Linus treats the hardware makes it obvious that he doesnt have to pay for it.

Given threadripper any spins for test, after the release of the new Windows scheduler?

  • 420noscope  9 days ago

I've heard linus give a speech previously about how he doesn't like to use the absolute "cutting edge" in his office use cases. I wonder if he is using this excuse to not use threadripper. In my office, I created a threadripper based nas (for pcie lanes), and it works great! And it fits perfectly in a 4u case with a specific noctua cooler. I do realize that the 9 series cpu he used may be considered "cutting edge", however ryzen is more so, considering that intel basically just ...
