  • NOT FOR BROADCAST. Raw footage of Fast Unit 53's (Chance Coldiron & Justin Cox) coverage of the Moore tornado that was used by KOCO5 during the event on May 20th, 2013. We watched as the tornado formed in front of us and rapidly intensified then moved across highway 37 in Newcastle, OK. Then the tornado continued to intensify as it tracked across the Canadian River and the interstate 44 bridge. The monster tornado was filmed from close range off the I-44 bridge north of Newcastle as it was headed for Moore.

Imagine how this shit was when we didn't have advanced meteorology and storm forecasting techniques etc.....this would just...pop up out of nowhere and you didn't stand a chance

  • dannyhuskerjay  2 days ago

natives in tornado valley had things to tell when severe whether was coming so they could prepare and bunker down .

  • leftyfourguns  5 days ago

@TMIDiva Even ancient mariners (Egyptians and Greeks) had ways to predict and spot storms. That only got better as time went on. But tornadoes are a different matter. Wildly unpredictable, even now with advanced technology (though they still do a good job). For most of human history the area known as Tornado Alley was inhabited by nomadic people, so would've been less devastating. They're so devastating to modern culture because they just plow right through our homes and we can't do anything about it.

@lairdriver The meaning of "trained" or "professional" is that they're studied Meteorologists. That is the most trained you can get in that case. Study that shit like your life depends on it, focus on the science and math behind tornadoes and pray all the way that you don't fuck up.THAT'S the meaning behind "trained pros". There is such a thing. It's just not what you think it is. They still know how to ascertain the information they need to make decisions. And regarding ...

  • Acerbic Laughter  6 days ago

@Ed Aker wrong. They were employed by KOCO 5 to spot for their station. The meteorologist they're talking to is Damon Lane.

The people in every car driving on that highway “shitshitshitshitshitshitshitshit”

  • Generalrayjo  11 days ago

I was there that day when it hit. I was driving on the highway on I-40 going to the Texas panhandle to get me and my wife's stuff we left after moving back to NE Oklahoma. The sky turned black. I've been through several tornadoes to know that when the sky turns black and not just dark that a super violent tornado is coming. I hauled butt and shoved cars out of my way as the tornado crossed near the highway at the Newcastle exit and Moore. That was one of the worst days I can ever remember.

Tornadoes both fascinate and terrify me. Mother Nature is really something.

  • Nonet Splitter  14 days ago

3:04 He shouldn't have insulted it. He calls it a "high end EF3" and the tornado's like "fuck that, you bitch!" and starts massively widening. People died. NEVER insult a young tornado!

  • Jim Cholley  18 days ago

@Savage SlothWhom are you speaking to? Of course "physics" apply, if that is what physics entails. What are we talking about here?

  • I heard that this tornado intensified very quickly. It touched down as a EF0-EF1 and became an EF4 in four minutes! That is insane!!!

  • Shut the fuck up
