  • April 30, 2013 Storm Chasers Jeff Piotrowski and Kathryn Piotrowski intercepted beautiful outflow dominated storms in the Texas rolling plains from Matador, TX down to Sweetwater, TX. A gust front pushed out ahead of the line of storms extending from Floydada, TX to south of Lubbock, TX, pushing a wall of dust across the plains. Dust devils were everywhere. We met up with storm chaser, Jeremy Holmes near Jayton, TX ...he was on the storms south of Lubbock as they initiated. Dust was EVERYWHERE..and visibility became poor but never to the point of blackout as with a Derecho. I (Kathryn) have been in a Derecho and let me tell you...day turns into night and your vehicle gets sandblasted. That day gave me a glimpse into the Dust Bowl days. No tornadoes today but mother nature gave us some photogenic storms.
